Ryan Korbutt is a composer, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer from Edmonton, Alberta, now based in Nelson. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Composition from MacEwan University, and for him, creating a new piece of music is one of the most joyful parts of being a musician.
He writes in a wide range of styles, from folk and blues to experimental contemporary classical. Across all of it, Ryan values storytelling, exploration and a sense of humour, and he encourages his students to do the same, whether they’re learning an instrument or finding their voice as a writer.
As a teacher, Ryan pairs formal training with a playful approach, helping students understand the technical side of their instrument without losing the curiosity and experimentation that make music fun. At Studio88 he teaches piano, guitar, drums, composition and songwriting to all ages and levels, from absolute beginners up.
