Junior Composers — Ages 9–12 (new this winter)
Write your own music.
With Ryan, you’ll turn your ideas into real pieces through rhythm and melody games, listening, and shaping a short piece for your own instrument. Every composer finishes a piece to enter in the Kootenay Festival of the Arts in April and premiere for family and friends.
For students who take lessons on an instrument or voice and read basic notation.
Tuesdays, 4:30–5:15pm, January 5 to March 9, plus March 30 and April 6 (12 classes). $300. Up to 6 composers.
Teen Composers — Ages 13–17 (new this winter)
A composers’ workshop for teen musicians.
You’ll write and notate an original piece for your instrument, or a duet with a classmate, in MuseScore, with one-on-one feedback from Ryan every week. Then you’ll prepare it for the Kootenay Festival of the Arts and a Studio88 premiere.
For students who read music well on their instrument. No composing experience needed.
Tuesdays, 5:30–6:30pm, January 5 to March 9, plus March 30 and April 6 (12 classes). $360. Up to 6 composers.
Bring a friend or family member to class in the last week of term, March 8–12.
