Our music production program is structured to accommodate both new and returning students. New students begin with foundational skills, learning basic beat-making and rhythm while getting comfortable with digital audio workstation fundamentals. They’ll practice recording vocals and simple instruments, create loops, develop basic song structures, and explore various music genres.
Returning students delve into more advanced topics, including sophisticated mixing and effects, complex song arrangement and composition, and multiple-track layering techniques. They also study sound design, synthesis, and apply music theory fundamentals to their production work.
The classes emphasize collaborative learning through several combined activities. Students of all skill levels work together to create songs, participate in weekly music challenges with differentiated difficulty tiers, and engage in genre-swap remix projects. They showcase their work in our open houses and showcases at the end of each term allowing us to celebrate everyone’s new skills! We even create original soundtracks for student films, often collaborating with animation and video classes.
The class structure is an approach that helps build a supportive learning community while developing everyone’s skills.
