Our music production and film scoring classes are structured to accommodate both new and returning students. Music Production students begin with foundational skills, learning basic beat-making and rhythm while getting comfortable with digital audio workstation fundamentals. They’ll practice recording vocals and simple instruments, create loops, develop basic song structures, and explore various music genres.
Returning students delve into more advanced topics, including sophisticated mixing and effects, complex song arrangement and composition, and multiple-track layering techniques. They also study sound design, synthesis, and apply music theory fundamentals to their production work.
Film Scoring students will delve into the enchanting world of film audio in this hands-on course designed for aspiring composers and sound artists. Students will discover how music transforms storytelling, create memorable themes that connect with characters and emotions, and learn to score diverse scenes from epic adventures to intimate moments. You’ll also dive into voice acting techniques and foley artistry, learning to bring characters to life through vocal performance and create realistic sound effects using everyday objects.
These classes emphasize collaborative learning through a combination of activities. Students of all skill levels collaborate to create songs, participate in weekly music challenges with differentiated difficulty levels. They showcase their work in our open houses and at the end-of-term showcases, allowing us to celebrate everyone’s new skills. We even create original soundtracks for student films, often collaborating with animation and video classes.
The class structure is an approach that helps build a supportive learning community while developing the skills of everyone involved.
